Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

The past few months have been a bit busy for us and we were all sick a couple of times too, which left little time to get a photograph of all of us for this years Christmas card. In lieu of a card, we thought we’d wish you all a Merry Christmas this way and show you what we’ve been up to these past few months.

Right before Thanksgiving, Asher brought home Norovirus from school, which pretty much ruled out doing us anything for a whole week at our house. After we all recovered from that, both Madelyn and Asher caught colds that have yet to go away. But in between the sniffles and coughs, we’ve managed to pick out a Christmas tree and do some decorating.

As you can see, ornaments are best displayed very close together.

Don’t you love our decorating? The kids took over most of it and we have garland and strings of lights all over the house; which includes walls and windows as the first picture shows you.  Once you’re done decorating the tree {and every square inch of the house}, have your sibling decorate you as a tree!

Madelyn had a Holiday program last week and she did such a great job! Asher was so excited to watch her, that he couldn’t sit still for more than 2 min at a time. He also, wanted to help me take pictures of Madelyn while I tried desperately to get a decent shot or video of her. Ahhhh…. concerts with a 3-year-old…..

Unfortunately, Asher was too sick on the day his class had their Holiday Program:(

He was better by this past Wednesday, which was also Madelyn’s early release day from school, so we decided to bake cookies once she came home. Once I had my special coffee in hand and the supplies were pulled out of the cabinets, we were ready to bake.

A couple of days ago, I ended up bringing my bangs back.

They couldn’t help but have some goofy moments. Madelyn is quite the drama queen, incase you couldn’t tell.

Asher was concerned about the rocking the mixer was doing at max speed. He figured he should hold on to it to make sure it didn’t hop off the counter.

Aren’t these critter cut-outs awesome? I got them at Ikea a few weeks ago. When Madelyn asked about our normal Christmas cut-outs, I told her it was a critter Christmas this year.

We hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and a New Year filled with happiness! We love you all and next year, I’ll get going on those Christmas cards earlier:)

With love,

Marzena, Dave, Madelyn and Asher

I hate the frigid cold. I’m not a skier, snowboarder, or snowshoer. I hate going sledding unless it’s above 30. And making a snowman? Again, around 30. I’m not a fan of getting into a cold car and waiting about 10-15 min before I can feel hot air blast  through my vents. And don’t even get me started on staying warm in the house (the thermostat is set for at least 72). I just hate the cold.

Unfortunately, winter is about 5 months long in the Midwest, instead of 3 like the calendar says. Since I’m not planning on moving out of state, I will have to grin and bear it and find ways to make it through the long winter months.

This past week has been especially cold here (negative numbers, people!!!!) and I am so thankful that I got a new pair of slippers that are so warm, my feet are the warmest part of my body when I have them on!

If you follow me on Instagram, then you have already seen these. But if not, you can now see how incredibly cute they look. How can you not order 1 or 3! I LOVE them. I’m actually wearing them right now to keep my big feet warm:) My fabulous friend, Sara, has a little shop on Etsy called Wild Tree Design and if you haven’t already checked her out, you should. She is amazing! And a perfectionist:) so you know that she will go above and beyond to make sure that you are happy with her product. She has more colors to chose from too and if you have large feet like me (size 10.5), she will customize them to make sure they fit.

She also sells hand poured soy candles that smell amazing. I have Balsam Fir lit right now to give the house an extra Christmasy feel.

She has a few other scents for the season, as well. If you’re a fan of Aveda and love the way your hair smells with their product, she is planning on having some Aveda scented candles, too. So, you’ll have to check back on her site soon if you’d like to order some.

Last, but not least, I asked her to design our Christmas cards this year. She does child invites, but she hasn’t done Christmas cards, yet. Since I know what a perfectionist she is and what awesome design skills she has, I couldn’t help but ask. I couldn’t be happier with the result!

Isn’t the card fabulous looking? Not to mention that it’s not a bad looking family, too:)

Asher is turning 3 in a month and half and I can’t wait for her to come up with a design for his birthday invites. We’re not sure on the theme yet, but I know that Sara will help us get the perfect card together for his big day. Her card shop is called PeaSize Design and she has some adorable cards available. If you have a little one having a birthday soon, you should totally check her out!

While you shop on Etsy for some new slippers and candles, think warm thoughts for the next 5 months until it’s mid-Spring:)

Someone touched the elf…

Children say the funniest things and mine sure keep me laughing, which made me decide to put up a new category called “what my kids say”. There are days that I laugh hysterically at what comes out of their mouths and I swear that I will lock it away in my memory vault so that I can remember it always. Yeah….that never ends up working. This seemed like the next best thing.

I came home from work yesterday to this:

Madelyn: Mom, Asher touched Happy (he’s our elf on the shelf)

Me: Oh oh. Now what? What’s this?

(pointing to this)

{Translation: 1)picture of her and Happy. 2) To Happy, I am so so sorry. Asher is sorry for touching you}

Madelyn: That’s the card I made for Happy and here are some crayons in Christmas colors for him to take back to the North Pole since he likes Christmas.

Me: Oh. that sounds really nice. Do you think he will come back tonight since you did such nice things to make up for Asher touching him?

Madelyn: Yes, and I will put some cinnamon around him so that he can feel better, too. (she told Dave that if she gives him cinnamon, he can get fixed up by the ER at the North Pole because it’s like vitamins to get his magic back)

Me: Cinnamon, huh? I didn’t know that. I hope he gets his magic back so that he can tell Santa how good you have been.

Madelyn: Me too.
