Oh my goodness! If you haven’t tried paddleboarding yet, you should. Like, you really should. I’ve never even heard of it until this summer and thankfully, my good friend Sara from Wildtree Design found this great deal to learn how to paddleboard with Paddleboard Specialists, which is super easy, by the way. As a bonus, half the money goes toward a new polar bear sanctuary at the zoo in town.
This is actually how it all started….
No one likes it when momma does something that the children can’t come along to do as well. Thankfully, this lasted only a short time and Dave was able to get them excited to watch us (me, sara and our friend, Adam) go out on the water.
They said that there was a small chance that we would fall in the water, especially since it was pretty windy on Lake Wingra today, so I was a bit nervous when I was getting on my board. I ended up not falling in, but Adam fell in twice:) As bad as my legs were shaking from trying to be stable on the board, I’m quite surprised that I didn’t fall.
We paddled out to the far side of the lake before we were able to stand up, which was fine by me! I was nervous that I wouldn’t be able to hold my balance since my legs were shaking just trying to keep balanced while kneeling. Apparently, I need to workout those muscles a bit more…
Once I stood on the board, my legs were shaking like a leaf. But, they said that would happen and that it would go away. They were right:)
It was smooth sailing from then on. I was able to turn and paddle without falling into a bunch of seaweed; I got a great workout while hanging out with great friends; and most importantly, I was able to be out on the peaceful water enjoying the quiet.
I don’t know if it was the instructors that made the hour lesson so much fun, or just that paddleboarding IS fun. Regardless, I can’t wait to do this again.
